Rwonyo Lake Mburo

Waking Up in the Wild

Rwonyo Guesthouse Lake Mburo: Waking up in the wild is something extra ordinary and beautiful. Sounds of wild animals, birds singing and seeing the local residents going on about their way of life. Its extremely interactive, educational, exhilarating and an exclusive opportunity to be up close and personal with the wildlife.

Sleeping in the wild is something I always love doing, because as a traveler you get unrivaled access to the animals. At the Lake Mburo National Park there are a number of Safari Lodges/tented camps for accommodation, but I would like to recommend Rwonyo Guesthouse, managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority.

At Lake Mburo National Park in Uganda at Rwonyo Headquarters, they have two options, the tents and the guesthouse. The tents are really fine and affordable (60,000Ugx about $16 per tent- double occupancy), have no power and two tents have inside toilets.

Then they have the beautiful Rwonyo guesthouse at an affordable price of 130,000Ugx (about $35 per room, per night) This comes with hearty breakfast (for two) and power for charging your gadgets, warm water and really nice bed.

The meals at the restaurant are also very affordable and super tasty, making Lake Mburo very affordable to visit and spend an awesome weekend.

Lake Mburo National Park is a compact gem, located conveniently close to the highway that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda. It is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks and underlain by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks which date back more than 500 million years. It is home to 350 bird species as well as zebra, impala, eland, buffalo, oribi, Defassa waterbuck, leopard, hippo, hyena, topi and reedbuck.

Together with 13 other lakes in the area, Lake Mburo forms part of a 50km-long wetland system linked by a swamp. Five of these lakes lie within the park’s borders. Once covered by open savanna, Lake Mburo National Park now contains much woodland as there are no elephants to tame the vegetation. In the western part of the park, the savanna is interspersed with rocky ridges and forested gorges while patches of papyrus swamp and narrow bands of lush riparian woodland line many lakes.

Wanderlust Adventures organizes 2 Days Lake Mburo National Park Safari with guaranteed daily private and weekly group departures.
