This Teaching Volunteering Project Uganda, will take you to the heart of Uganda where you get involved in meaningful volunteer work. We ask volunteers interested in the Uganda volunteer work to commit at least 28 days (4 weeks) in order to ensure a worthwhile experience. But we accept volunteers from a minimum of 1 week’ duration.
We want every volunteer to feel that their time in Uganda was put to good use and that they had adequate time to make an impact. The preferred length of trip for a volunteer’s first visit is 4 -8 weeks. Although we do not strictly prohibit shorter stays, we do request that our volunteers are able to offer at least one month of voluntary services. Occasionally we will allow for a shorter stay than one month, but this is handled on a case by case basis.
The trip starts and ends in Uganda’s capital Kampala. You will be based in Mukono District. Mukono is one of the most relaxed and attractive suburbs, east of Kampala (the capital city of Uganda). Mukono is a great place to stay if you want to explore Uganda’s fascinating capital city or the adventure capital- Jinja.
Ssamba Foundation is committed to our headquarters district of Mukono, Uganda. Ssamba Foundation has supported the communities of Mukono and beyond since 2006. Ssamba Foundation is committed to making an impact in Mukono through Strategic Community Investments by supporting causes that strengthen community development focus.

THE TEACHING VOLUNTEERING PROJECT IN MUKONO
Day 3-27: Volunteer Work
The Uganda Teaching volunteering project is an enriching and satisfying experience where the volunteer get the opportunity to teach children who are eager to improve their conversational English skills and other subjects.
The Volunteers serving with the Uganda teaching volunteering project will work primarily as instructors of English in local schools in Uganda. The Volunteers teaching in Uganda may also be asked to assist in other school activities such as sports and other extra-curricular projects or working at local community centers.
You can teach primary or high school classes, including academic subjects and life skills, and organize sport and art activities for the children. Let us know what you’re interested in teaching and we’ll get you into the best placement for you. School terms vary annually but are likely to be: Feb 1 to April 15, May 20 to August 20, Sept 20 to November 30.
Know that traditional education in Uganda is based on memorization and passing exams. While there is a language barrier, by volunteering you can introduce creative writing, drawing, debate, and life skills into the classroom.
Teaching needy and orphaned kids has serious challenges and needs volunteers who are open to local teaching methods but still able to bring creativity and fun into the classroom. You are the outside world to these kids. Schools have a basic curriculum, but you’ll be planning your own lessons daily.
All of our volunteer projects in Uganda need volunteers who can bring new ideas, work with minimal supervision, and have a positive, self-starting attitude. We do not need just young volunteers, but older people with business skills and experience. You will be working from Monday to Friday in a busy school.
Weekends | Free Time
On the weekends you are encouraged to explore the country with friends you make on the program, and our representatives are available to give travel advice and make bookings for you.
Day 28 – Good bye party/ Barbecue night
Your friends at the program will organize a party for you and barbecue night to thank you for the service and your contribution.
