There are costs involved in hosting volunteers and we request our volunteers to cover up their living costs, this helps our organization to concentrate its resources on empowering vulnerable communities. Volunteering in Uganda with Ssamba Foundation is AFFORDABLE, as it should be!
At Ssamba Foundation, we appreciate and allow you to use your compassion to help make the world a better at reasonable volunteer program fees! Although you are responsible for your flight, visas and living costs, there is no application fees to get involved.
Many organizations see volunteers as a potential cash cow and are guilty of charging extreme rates. Ssamba Foundation makes every effort to keep your costs to a minimum, as it is your talent and time that are most valuable to us and the communities we serve. Whether you are interested in volunteering short-term or long-term, we will discuss arrangements with you concerning finances.

Personal Expenses: The amount you can expect to use for personal expenses varies, but we recommend you plan for about $50 to $100 per week to cover such expenses as your phone or internet bill, transportation, laundry, snacks, entertainment, drinks, and excursions.
Once you decide to get involved with the Ssamba Foundation as a volunteer/intern, you are required to fill a volunteer application form and submit for review. Once your application has been received, you will be invited for a virtual meeting with the Coordinators to discuss the program.
REGISTRATION AND PLACEMENT CONFIRMATION
Once your application has been approved and you have received your letter of acceptance into the program. You will be required to make the FIRST WEEK program fee payment within 7 days from the date you receive the acceptance letter. Regardless of when you are planning to start the program. You will have the liberty to pay the rest of the program fee upon arrival in Uganda (or you can pay it before). The first week payment confirms your placement as a registration. We do ask at least the first week fee of USD$190 to be paid in advance to prevent the staff and community in general being disappointed.
WHY DO WE ASK FOR THE DEPOSIT
Since we started, the number of participants applying has increased each year. Unfortunately, only a third of those who promise that they will come, have in fact arrived. The wastage in volunteer coordinators’ time and the fact that volunteers who could have come were refused due to holding the space for someone else who didn’t turn up, forced us to implement this. We hope that by implementing the commitment payment, only serious volunteers will thus secure the chance to volunteer in our projects.
CHILDREN BELOW 15 YEARS
Children below 15 years traveling with parents or guardians, pay 50% of the program fee.
Volunteers are responsible for obtaining all required vaccinations prior to embarking on their volunteer trip. The Ssamba Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can provide you with a list of required immunizations. Apart from English, volunteers have no language requirements as interpreters will be on hand to facilitate communications.
The Ssamba Foundation encourages – but does not require – volunteers to participate in fundraising with the aim of bringing a donation to the charity. The funds raised go directly to the volunteer’s intended project.
OUR REFUND POLICY IS AS FOLLOWS
The volunteer placement commitment fee of USD$190 and all kinds of donations are non-refundable. As it is very difficult for us to fill volunteer places at short notice if someone cancels prior to starting their placement or leaves the program early.
Please remember that nearly all of the money you pay or raise for your project goes directly towards running that particular charitable project you choose to help.
