At Ssamba Foundation, we believe that Dance and Music are an excellent means of communicating and can also be downright fun for the kids! For anyone interested in joining and serve with us under this music, dance and drama project, you don’t need any qualifications to volunteer with this Uganda project, all you need is just lots of enthusiasm. If dance or music is your thing then consider sharing your creative talents teaching dance and music in Uganda.
We use dance and music to address social issues and enable children to express their frustrations and confusions – and perhaps help them to understand and learn to cope with unwelcome situations. Dance and Music helps teach children life skills, communication and socializing skills. And it’s fun!
This is a great opportunity to learn about music and dance in different cultures and languages and be inspired! They will be keen to teach you their songs but also enjoy learning new songs – from old nursery rhymes such as head, shoulders, knees and toes to modern music; add in a dance routine and you will be occupied for hours!
VOLUNTEER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
On this project, volunteers will be based at a local school in Mukono where they will work with children, they will also work alongside our well established music and culture dance troupe. You don’t need any specific qualifications or previous experience to get involved but a basic knowledge or interest in music, instruments or dance is needed.
Artistic expression is a universal language and dance and music are just two variations. Ugandans are very creative and this creativity can be channeled into projects like the Dance and Music project. In the case of children, dance and music can be used as a means of communicating their challenges as well as fostering their personal development.
Volunteers work primarily with the younger children on tasks such as:
- Preparing materials for group meetings.
- Assisting in planning and organizing events.
- Providing structured guidance for performances.
- Supporting the organization in administrative duties.
- Assisting in developing artistic drama and dance pieces.
- Fostering a supportive environment to facilitate growth and development.
As a volunteer working at our music and dance project, it is important that you are enthusiastic, flexible, open to learning, and eager to work with children and young adults. Anyone who has good organizational skills and experience of managing group dynamics will be a great fit for this project.
The skills and experiences that you will share will have a lifelong impact on the children of the dance and music group and your support will be greatly appreciated. The Dance and Music Project also provides an invaluable forum for the development of artistic expression – an interest of many children that is often underrated.

PROJECT LOCATION
Ssamba Foundations host volunteers in our community programs in Mukono District. We are privileged to work in some of the most beautiful rural communities of Uganda. These wonderful communities also have some of the poorest people and at risk youth, children and women. All our projects are privately funded in the majority of cases. We rely, not only on individual volunteer’s help to carry out the work, but also their financial support.
By choosing to support these projects with both your time and money, we know that that your work has helped to make the world a slightly easier place to live in for some of the poorest people. These rural communities have no welfare opportunities. The things you might take for granted like education, hospitals, roads, housing and food are not available here. This is the reason we work hard at Ssamba Foundation, we know that as well as having a fantastic time, your skills and your hard work will be invaluable to people who just need a helping hand
