Teens Volunteer Project Uganda

Are you 18 or 19 years old and looking for an opportunity to volunteer abroad? Uganda offers a rewarding environment for young people who want to explore a new culture, develop practical skills, meet people from different backgrounds and contribute to community development.

Through the Teens Volunteer Project Uganda with Ssamba Foundation, young participants can become involved in community activities while discovering the people, traditions and everyday life of Uganda.

Gap-Year Volunteering in Uganda

Who Can Participate?

The program welcomes teenagers aged 18–19 years who are interested in volunteering, cultural exchange and community development.

Younger teenagers may also participate, but anyone below 18 must travel with an accompanying adult, such as a parent, guardian or approved adult supervisor. Additional parental consent, safeguarding arrangements and program approval may be required before participation.

We encourage families to contact Ssamba Foundation before making travel arrangements to discuss age requirements and suitable participation arrangements.

What Can Young Volunteers Do?

Our integrated Community Volunteer Program offers opportunities to participate in different activities depending on ongoing projects, community needs, interests and individual abilities.

Activities may include:

  • Education and youth development: Supporting children’s learning, reading, sports and recreational activities.
  • Agriculture: Participating in gardening, food production and agricultural learning activities.
  • Women’s empowerment: Supporting vocational skills and community initiatives.
  • Public health: Assisting with health awareness and community outreach activities.
  • Environment and WASH: Participating in hygiene promotion, environmental awareness and practical community activities.
  • Community development: Helping with workshops, events and other ongoing projects.

Participants do not have to choose one fixed role. Activities are coordinated according to their interests, suitability and the needs of the community.

More Than Volunteering: Discover Ugandan Culture

An important part of the experience is cultural immersion. Young volunteers have opportunities to interact with local people, experience Ugandan food, learn about traditions, make new friends and exchange ideas with people from different backgrounds. They can also explore Uganda through optional tours and wildlife experiences.
