Looking for a family holiday that offers more than sightseeing? Imagine travelling to Uganda, discovering its beautiful landscapes, experiencing a different culture and spending time supporting local communities as a family.
The Family Volunteer Safari Uganda with Ssamba Foundation offers families an opportunity to combine community volunteering, cultural exchange and an unforgettable African adventure.
It is a chance for parents and children to learn together, share experiences, make new friends and discover the value of giving back.

Volunteer Together as a Family
Through Ssamba Foundation’s Community Volunteer Program, families can participate in different community activities depending on ongoing projects, community priorities, children’s ages, individual interests and suitability.
Activities may include:
- Education and children’s activities: Supporting reading, learning games, sports and recreational activities.
- Agriculture and food security: Taking part in gardening, planting and practical agricultural activities.
- Women’s empowerment: Learning about vocational skills, entrepreneurship and women’s community initiatives.
- Community health: Supporting appropriate health awareness and community outreach activities.
- Environment and sanitation: Participating in environmental awareness, hygiene promotion and community improvement activities.
- Community engagement: Joining local gatherings, workshops and other community activities.
Families do not have to follow one fixed volunteer role. Activities are coordinated to provide suitable opportunities for different family members.
Children must participate in age-appropriate activities under appropriate adult supervision. Parents and guardians remain responsible for their children throughout the experience.

Experience the Culture of Uganda
Cultural immersion is an important part of the family experience. Families have opportunities to meet local people, enjoy Ugandan food, learn about traditions, explore everyday community life and build friendships.
These shared experiences can help children develop confidence, curiosity, cultural understanding and appreciation for different ways of life.

Discover Uganda Through Family Safaris and Tours
Beyond volunteering, families can explore Uganda’s natural beauty and wildlife through optional tours and safaris. Depending on your interests, available time and budget, experiences may include:
- Wildlife safaris in Uganda’s national parks.
- Nature walks and scenic countryside excursions.
- Cultural and community tours.
- Weekend trips and longer family adventures.
- Visits to selected attractions and natural sites.
Safari activities are optional and arranged separately from the volunteer program. Wildlife activities involving gorillas, chimpanzees or other protected experiences depend on official permits, availability and applicable regulations.
