Volunteer in Uganda – Agriculture & Environment

Are you passionate about agriculture, food security and environmental conservation? Join Ssamba Foundation in Uganda and take part in community-based activities that promote sustainable agriculture, healthier households and resilient communities.

Based in Kyampisi, Mukono District, Ssamba Foundation works with local communities to encourage practical solutions to food insecurity, improve agricultural knowledge and promote responsible use of natural resources.

Our agriculture activities form part of the Ssamba Foundation Community Volunteer Program. Volunteers contribute to ongoing projects at the Foundation Centre and in surrounding communities, depending on local priorities, available activities and their skills and interests.

What Can You Do as an Agriculture Volunteer?

Depending on current projects, you may participate in activities such as:

  • Food security: Supporting community initiatives that encourage households to grow and access nutritious food.
  • Kitchen gardens: Helping establish and maintain small gardens that provide fresh vegetables for household consumption.
  • Backyard gardening: Promoting practical home-based food production using available space and resources.
  • Sustainable agriculture: Learning and sharing practical approaches to soil improvement, crop production and responsible farming.
  • Environmental conservation: Participating in tree planting, environmental awareness, biodiversity protection and other conservation activities where available.
  • Agricultural learning: Supporting demonstrations and knowledge-sharing activities that introduce communities and young people to farming and food production.

More Than Agriculture – Experience Community Life

Our volunteer program is flexible. You are not restricted to one activity or a fixed job role. Depending on ongoing community needs, you may also support education, women’s empowerment, public health, water and sanitation activities.

Volunteering also offers an opportunity to experience Ugandan culture, local food, traditions and everyday community life. Accommodation is available at Kyampisi Backpackers Home.
