Volunteer in Uganda – Public Health

Are you passionate about public health, disease prevention and community well-being? Join Ssamba Foundation in Uganda and support community initiatives that promote health awareness, encourage healthy practices and help build healthier communities.

Based in Kyampisi, Mukono District, Ssamba Foundation works with communities and partners to promote public health education, disease awareness and practical health-related activities.

Kyampisi Community Health Initiative

Our public health activities are part of the Ssamba Foundation Community Volunteer Program. Volunteers participate in ongoing initiatives at the Foundation Centre and in surrounding communities, depending on local priorities, available projects, individual skills and suitability.

What Can You Do as a Public Health Volunteer?

Depending on the activities taking place during your visit, you may support:

  • Community health education: Helping share information about disease prevention, hygiene, healthy lifestyles and general well-being.
  • Malaria prevention: Supporting community awareness campaigns and mosquito net distribution activities where available.
  • Medical camps and health outreaches: Assisting with community mobilization, coordination and logistical support alongside qualified health professionals and partner organizations.
  • Mental health awareness: Supporting conversations and awareness activities that encourage understanding, well-being and reduced stigma.
  • Immunization awareness: Helping communities understand the importance of vaccination and access to relevant health information.
  • Blood donation campaigns: Supporting awareness, mobilization and community participation in initiatives organized with relevant partners.
  • Household hygiene: Promoting practical hygiene practices, including activities such as improved household drying racks.

Volunteers do not replace qualified healthcare professionals or undertake clinical procedures unless appropriately qualified, authorized and supervised.

More Than Public Health – Experience Ugandan Culture

Our volunteer program is flexible. You may also participate in agriculture, education, women’s empowerment, water and sanitation or other community activities, depending on ongoing projects and suitability.

You will experience Ugandan food, traditions, language and everyday community life while building friendships and exchanging ideas with local people. Accommodation is available at Kyampisi Backpackers Home.
