UGANDA COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
More than a volunteer Placement. a complete community experience. At Ssamba Foundation, volunteering is not limited to one project, department or job description.
We operate an integrated Community Volunteer Program that brings together activities across our five community development focus areas:
- Education, Sports & Youth Development
- Agriculture, Food Security & Nutrition
- Women Empowerment & Well-Being
- Public Health & Community Well-being
- Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

When you join our program, you become part of the wider community development journey of Ssamba Foundation. You don’t have to apply for one specific activity, such as teaching, farming, construction or healthcare.
Instead, you participate in a combination of suitable activities depending on the projects taking place during your visit, your interests, abilities, experience and the needs of the community. Our programs are dynamic.

At one time, the Centre may be busy with agricultural activities, while at another time we may be organizing community health outreaches, supporting women’s vocational training, conducting children’s activities or undertaking construction and improvement projects.
We want volunteers to be open to participating in different activities rather than expecting a fixed job role throughout their stay.

ONE PROGRAM, MANY WAYS TO CONTRIBUTE
During your placement, you may find yourself:
- Participating in agricultural demonstrations gardens
- Participating in practical learning and innovation activities
- Participating in community health awareness and outreaches
- Helping organize community events, workshops and meetings
- Joining children’s educational, sports and recreational activities
- Supporting construction, maintenance or improvement activities
- Assisting with women’s skills development and entrepreneurship
- Supporting water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental activities
- Sharing professional knowledge, mentoring or administrative work

You may work across several of these activities during the same placement. For example, a volunteer may spend part of the week supporting agricultural activities, assist with a community event on another day and participate in a practical Centre development project later in the week.
Your placement is coordinated by our local team according to what is happening and where your contribution is most useful. We do not promise a fixed job role. We offer an opportunity to become actively involved in community development.

These are not five separate volunteer placements. They are the five areas of work that make up the wider Ssamba Foundation community development program.

CULTURAL IMMERSION EXPERIENCEย
One of the most valuable parts of volunteering with Ssamba Foundation is the opportunity to experience everyday Ugandan life. We believe volunteering should be more than completing assigned activities.
It should also be an opportunity to understand another culture, develop friendships, exchange ideas and learn from the people and communities you meet. Through your stay in Mukono, you will have opportunities to interact with local people, experience community life and discover the traditions, hospitality and everyday realities of Uganda.

EXPLORE UGANDA โ SAFARIS & TOURSย
We strongly encourage volunteers to explore Uganda during their stay. Uganda is a country of extraordinary natural beauty, wildlife, landscapes, culture and hospitality. We believe that a volunteering experience in Uganda becomes even more rewarding when participants also have an opportunity to discover the country beyond their host community.
For this reason, Ssamba Foundation helps volunteers organize affordable safari, tour and travel experiences that can be combined with their volunteer placement. Whether you have a free weekend, a few extra days or time after completing your placement, we can help you explore suitable travel options according to your interests, schedule and budget.

VOLUNTEER ACCOMMODATIONย
A good volunteering experience also needs a comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Volunteers staying with Ssamba Foundation are accommodated at Kyampisi Backpackers Home, our volunteer guesthouse located close to the Foundation’s community programs.
The guesthouse provides a convenient base for volunteers to participate in community activities while experiencing Ugandan hospitality and local village life. It is more than a place to sleep. It is part of the wider cultural immersion experience, bringing volunteers closer to the community and creating opportunities for interaction, friendship and shared experiences.
